hearts x 24, sunlight through the bougainvillea

it's rare that i make a piece with the express purpose (or attempt anyway) of resembling another thing. mostly, i like shapes that overlap and colors and lines and angles and layers. but i had an idea one day of wanting to make a piece that reminded me of one of my favorite experiences - walking under a canopy of bougainvillea. i lived in san diego for 8 years and there's gorgeous walls of bougainvillea all over southern california and, every so often, it grows a little unruly and canopies over the sidewalk. if you're lucky enough to catch a canopy on a sunny day, the starburst of light behind the color of the flower and the green of the leaves is a little slice of heaven. mmmmmmm, bougainvillea.

12"x12" wooden board
acrylic (with iridescence added, so the paint kind of sparkles and shimmers)
metallic leaf
this one can be hung 4 unique ways, 2x as a diamond and 2x as a square*
(*this specific design was intended to be hung as a diamond, not as a square; but it *could be hung as a square; so technically, the piece can be hung in 4 ways... also, if it were me hanging it, i'd do so as a diamond, with the orange rays running N/S. but, that's me. if you buy it, it's yours and *you get to decide!)
artwork is signed on the back rather than the front, so you can decide in which direction you want to hang it in your home

first/bottom: orange, yellow rays
second: green with light green accents, and light green with green accents
third/top: hearts x 24 design, hand cut and blended metallic leaf of 4 colors:
light pink, hot pink, light purple, and purple
